Justin Verlander turned in a vintage performance in his first start in Detroit since he was traded to the Astros last season, striking out 10 over seven sharp innings. Marwin Gonzalez and Tyler White notched RBI singles in Houston’s three-run third, and Verlander made the lead hold up, striking out his final two batters with the tying run in scoring position. Dawel Lugo tagged Verlander with an RBI single, and Nicholas Castellanos added a sacrifice fly. Tigers starter Francisco Liriano twirled a quality start over six innings.
